My oldest daughter, Lydia and I were trying to find something that she can be for Halloween. We thought about it and thought about it. She was eating a lunchable and a pack of nerds. She said "MOMMY! I want to be a box of nerds!". I told her okay. But secretly I was thinking- HOW in the hell am I going to do this. Well, it was easier than I thought that is for sure. I had a big box from a package that I received in the mail recently. I searched my craft bag and I found ribbon, paint, brushes. I looked at her nerds box and went to town! It took 7 hours to paint the front of this box.  Check it out!
 Big Box!
Paint big box with acrylic paint. Let dry.
Grab a pencil and visually draw nerds images. Take your time. It doesn't have to be perfect.
Details matter. I did add the "Tiny, Tangy, Crunchy Candy" saying too far up on the box, but it doesn't have to be perfect. That was an honest mistake. I am still kicking myself for it. I already had the paints that I needed for this! To get lighter colors, I added white in my paint to lighten it up. You can find acrylic paint for only 50Cents at Walmart!
This turned out so adorable after painting it!!!! I also added HER weight on the box for a cute effect. =) I did not paint the sides yet. I WILL do that before Halloween! I had pink and purple ribbon. I had her hold the box, poked hole in it and threaded the ribbon. I crisscrossed it over her shoulders and tied in bows.
I took the lenses out of the old glasses, glued paper around them for effect. She had the hot pink hoodie and leggings already. Mix matched socks were in my sock drawer from my wild days. I had her put them on.
This costume is so adorable and completely affordable because it was FREE for me to make. I can't wait to paint the sides. I don't want to leave them white. I am happy that I did something for her that means a ton to her! Every second that I spent on this costume was so worth it! The only thing we are going to add is her chucks on her feet, and a hot pink wig! (MAYBE THE WIG).
What are your kiddo(s) going to be for Halloween? Do you make homemade costumes? Tell me about it!
