Wood Rot in docks
Docks can be made of several different materials. Wood is one of the more common materials that they can be made out of and with that said, wood can rot. Luckily, Decks & Docks Lumber Company can help with that. Fungus from the water can cause your dock to straight up crumble and that isn't fun for anyone! You can remove rotted areas or choose to replace the entire dock completely.
Repairing VS Replacing
Repairing VS Replacing
Not knowing the difference between having a boat dock in need of repair or replacement can be difficult, costly, dangerous, and even deadly. Don't freak out- your whole dock may not need replaced! If you only have damage sporadically through the dock, you can replace in in sections. This can also be a cheaper alternative than ripping the entire thing out and replacing it.
Checking your posts
If you don't have a floating dock, you need to have your posts at least 4 foot into the ground for stability. Be sure to check periodically through the year to ensure! If it becomes a persistent issue, consider a floating dock instead. The currants and waves can play an issue on damage to your dock and things occasionally can come loose. Your posts are of of the reasons your dock is stable.
Damaged Supports
Warped or cracked dock supports can also be a reason that things need to be repaired or replaced. Some docks are permanently installed with the help of pillars and underwater foundational support systems. You need to be sure these are also safely installed. Damage and erosion can be extremely dangerous if not kept up.
If you own a vacation home with a boat dock, you more than likely have family and friends over often. Think of that as precious cargo. You don't want anyone to sustain an injury and you surly don't want your dock to be damaged enough that your boat comes off the the cleats and floats away to bye-bye land! Decks & Docks Lumber Company is here to help as mentioned above. Don't worry, you don't want to repair it yourself, you can also hire someone to do the work for you!
